Cardiologist Consultation

patient listening to a doctor

Indications

Here are some common reasons you may need to or have been referred for a cardiologist consultation:

What is a Cardiologist Consultation?

A cardiologist consultation involves a doctor looking into your medical history and doing tests to check for heart problems. Normally, you need a referral from your regular doctor to see a cardiologist. Heartscope has specialised cardiologists who can help you manage and treat any heart conditions that you might have.

What can I expect during the test?

During your visit to the cardiologist, they will inquire about the symptoms you’ve been experiencing and your overall health. They might suggest some tests to check your heart, and many of these can be done right at Heartscope. Some tests they may recommend are:

  1. Stress Echocardiogram: An ultrasound imaging test that evaluates your heart’s function during exercise or medication-induced stress.
  2. ECG (Electrocardiogram): This test records the electrical activity of your heart to identify any irregular patterns.
  3. 24-Hour ECG Monitor: Continuous recording of your heart’s electrical activity to identify intermittent cardiac issues.
  4. Heartbug: A wearable device that records the heart’s activity over an extended period.
  5. Dobutamine Stress Echo: An echocardiogram test where the heart is stimulated by dobutamine to examine its function under stress.
  6. 24-Hour BP Monitor: Blood pressure measurements are taken at regular intervals over 24 hours to check for hypertension.
  7. CTCA (Computed Tomography Coronary Angiography): A CT scan that provides detailed images of the heart’s blood vessels.
  8. Sleep and Respiratory Consultation: Evaluation of sleep patterns and respiratory health, which can affect cardiovascular wellness.

What are the risks of the test?

Consulting with a healthcare professional carries no risks and is a positive step towards understanding and managing your health. Seeking medical advice is always a wise decision.
